Fangotheraphy has evidently been the most important since 1829.

Water is drawn from a hand dug well named "Paolone". It dates back to a remote epoch and lies on the volcanic-tettonic line separating Monterone from Forio. “Paolone“ is 15 meters deep and 1 Km from the sea.
The water gushing from three different graduated springs had got a temperature of 50 C°.
Analysis prove it is a salthy-sulphate-alkalini-earthy water.
The water is a very important one for the fitting out of the “fango“. A long time is necessary to allow the volcanic mud to become thermal mud (Fango).
It is taken away from open cast mines on Monte Epomeo and is subjected to a slow and complex process of ripeness being continually mixed with warm thermal water in special basins.
