Fangotheraphy has evidently been the most important since 1829.
Water is drawn from a hand dug well named "Paolone". It dates back to a remote epoch and lies on the volcanic-tettonic line separating Monterone from Forio. “Paolone“ is 15 meters deep and 1 Km from the sea.
The water gushing from three different graduated springs had got a temperature of 50 C°.
Analysis prove it is a salthy-sulphate-alkalini-earthy water.
The water is a very important one for the fitting out of the “fango“. A long time is necessary to allow the volcanic mud to become thermal mud (Fango).
It is taken away from open cast mines on Monte Epomeo and is subjected to a slow and complex process of ripeness being continually mixed with warm thermal water in special basins.
This process lasts 6 months to grant the “fango“ such peculiarities as:

Capacity of absorbing water
Plasticity
Viscosity
Fangotheraphy determines the following effects:

Eutrophic process
Mud bathing can be partial or total.
Mud application consists in spreading 40°-41° C mud. Patient is covered with a sheet to retain heat for 15-20 minutes. Then Fango is taken away by skilled workers and the patient has a dousche.
Balneotheraphy: Patient dive into 37°- 38° C thermalwater for 10 - 15 minutes. Water can be enriched with ozone.
After the bath they are dried by warm linen and can rest 30 - 60 min.
That’s the sudorific reaction. It is important to get the biological effects of the mud bath in a confortable place.
